Mentoring for Data Scientists and AI/ML Engineers Who Decided to Own Their Career

1:1 mentoring for Data Scientists and AI/ML Engineers

Do the work you love. Get the reward you deserve.

You love analyzing data with algorithms, and you're good at it. But that's not what decides who gets the meaningful projects, the bigger scope, or the promotion. Something else decides that, and almost nobody teaches it.

The patents, the award, the strong reviews. No promotion. Until it clicked.

I sat in the rooms where promotions get decided.

I spent twenty-five years in data science, consulting, and leading teams. For a long stretch of it, I was the person hearing "great work" and "not quite ready" in the same review. So I know this problem from the inside.

What I was missing wasn't technical. It was the unspoken rules, the trade-offs, and the mental models behind how careers actually move. Nobody writes those down, so I learned them the slow way. Once I had the pieces together, it worked. I led teams of 50 people, and later reached senior director working on strategic initiatives for a senior VP, changing how a large corporation supported growth and collaboration across its quantitative teams.

That role was also where I did most of my mentoring, building a community as a collaboration hub. From that side of the table, I kept seeing the same gap in strong people. So I put what I'd learned into one method, and now I help data scientists and AI/ML engineers close it faster than I did.

I always wanted a manager who pulled the best out of me. Not everyone gets one.
